An entertaining, pacy thriller with some unusual twists that you don’t see coming. The book switches between two settings and, in general we felt that the UK plot was better written than the US storyline (and personally, I didn’t find the US police narrative and dialogue that believable). The two stories seem disconnected to start with but all becomes clear. One of those books you want to keep reading to find out what happens next. It’s not the first in the series, but it didn’t detract from the book that we hadn’t read the earlier books (although I’m sure that fans who have read them all would get more from it). Enough to tempt one of our group to download the first in the series and find out what shaped Raker. It’s the sort of book that would make a good TV series so naturally we debated what sort of man Raker would be and who might be the right actor to play him…James McAvoy or Tom Holland? We all saw him slightly differently. Who would you cast?
