Intergenerational friendships

IMG_0577

This week was Global Intergenerational Week, a campaign to connect people of different generations in intentional, mutually beneficial activities, reducing loneliness, sharing experiences and encouraging understanding and skill-sharing amongst other things. That got me thinking about how those connections are celebrated in fiction, so here are a few books that came to mind, that feature friendships across the generations.

Looking for Eliza, Leaf Arbuthnot

My Name is Leon, Kit de Waal

Still Life, Sarah Winman

Mr Mac and Me, Esther Freud

The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot, Marianne Cronin

The Lieutenant, Kate Grenville

A Year of Marvellous Ways, Sarah Winman

The Switch, Beth O’Leary – listened to the audiobook of this one. Brilliantly narrated by Alison Steadman and Daisy Edgar-Jones
