Our original BookBubble

BookBubbles Curated Collections was inspired by our original BookBubble Book Club, our conversation and our love of reading on holiday. We are seven friends who, like many, met through our children and our local primary school. Over a decade later, we have (almost) moved on from lost PE Kit, SATs, times tables, spelling tests and PTA events, but our friendships have become so much more. All keen readers we formed our virtual BookBubble during lockdown to provide a little bit of social structure to the week. Zooming through a book a week for the first seven weeks, we transitioned to once a fortnight as life and logistics and the lifting of restrictions began to complicate things. These days we operate on a more manageable once a month basis. Our discussions have been varied and sometimes surprising. We have read things we otherwise wouldn’t have read, discovered new things about each other and probably about ourselves too. We often have a glass of something in hand, but we do always talk about the book before we allow ourselves to digress too much. Our opinions have been lively, we have shared both similar and opposing responses, with some books provoking a wide range of opinions – others not so much!

We’re not professional book reviewers or literary critics, but we know what we like, and we’re not afraid to share our opinions with each other. Books can be very personal, and sometimes it just comes down to the sort of book you are in the mood for, or simply something different from the last book you read.

If you have always fancied the idea of a Book Club, but are more about the shared reading experience than having to commit to a regular time slot to talk about it, then feel free to read along with us.  We’ll post our review here on our blog, and on our instagram account, which you can check out as and when you want to (or not if you don’t).

You will find our honest and independent thoughts on the books we have read together, plus other individual reviews on our Book review pages.

Our current book - May 2023
