26 year old Lilian is trapped by her circumstances. Her marriage has not turned out the way she expected - she is just another object her husband has added to his beautiful home in the the Chilterns. But with a step-son and a sister to care for, and no independent income, she has no option but to stay and play the role that is expected of her. Decades later her grand-daughter flees to Australia in a bid to escape the pain and bitterness she has caused. But, when Lillian falls ill, she is called home to care for her, and to save the family home and protect its legacy. In doing so she is forced to face her past and discovers the truth about her family's story.
